U.S. Embassy Supports Fiji’s 2018 General Election

On November 14, Fijians will go to the polls in the 2018 General Election. The United States celebrates Fiji’s successes in embracing a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. As a longstanding friend and partner, the United States encourages all Fijians to vote and participate in the democratic process—before, on, and after Election Day—to build Fiji’s strong and stable future.

The U.S. Embassy is committed to supporting the elections in Fiji. Therefore, the U.S. Embassy is proud to be participating in and contributing observers to the Multinational Observer Group (MOG) for Fiji’s 2018 General Election. Embassy staff members will join observers from numerous other countries to bolster the credibility of the electoral process.

With an anticipated 14 observers working in three of Fiji’s four Divisions, U.S. Embassy personnel will help the MOG in its important mission of witnessing and assessing these historic elections. Free, fair and transparent elections are a hallmark of democracy.

Following the conclusion of this election, the United States looks forward to working with the elected government of Fiji. The United States stands by the people of Fiji in their efforts to continue building their country, its democracy, and its future.
