Suva, Fiji – Today marks the first anniversary of the U.S. Embassy Youth Council’s (EYC) founding. The EYC is a youth-led initiative launched by the U.S. Embassy to promote and empower young, emerging voices in the Embassy ’s five countries of accreditation. Members of the Embassy Youth Council are a diverse group that work in collaboration to address and overcome the challenges that youth face.
In her welcoming remarks, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Rebecca Owen, reminded the EYC that, “The Youth Council serves as a link between U.S. Embassy Suva and the youth in the region. Together we continue to work toward youth empowerment in the 21st century.”
The Youth Council, through its membership, advises U.S. Embassy Suva on how to develop effective youth engagement, promote an inclusive and vibrant civil society, strengthen youth leadership, enhance community service activities, and create a space to build robust partnership between our respective countries.
